Julian Merriman

I've been drawing for as long as I can remember and it always felt like a completely natural thing to do. It was always the best subject through all of my schooling and I continued to study a wide variety of disciplines after school, from Ceramics to Computer Graphics. But the simple act of drawing a line and creating images that live and tell a story is still my favourite medium.

I teach in Adult Education delivering a variety of courses including Pen & Ink, Portraiture, Pet Portraits, Life Drawing, Introduction to Drawing Skills .... a wide variety and ever-expanding range. I'm delighted to say that my courses are popular and always over-subscribed.

My other great passion has always been two wheels. I have two distinct memories from my childhood - one of being on my mother's lap in a sidecar being ridden by my dad. And later, the exact moment my mother let go of the bicycle seat and like magic it felt like I was flying. I never stopped from then onwards. It was a realisation that riding on two wheels was so much more than just the act of riding.

As a child of the '70's I was witness to the emerging 'Fizzy's', Z1's and all those amazing machines of the period which were the ageing British bikes. It was inevitable that I would diversify into motorcycles as well.

Around ten years ago I left full-time employment to pursue my interests in life and became a qualified Motorcycle Instructor with 'Phoenix Motorcycle Training', (or 'Biketrain Wales' as it was then). I'm also employed part-time as a Gallery Manager with the charity 'Life With Art' as well as an Art Tutor with Monmouthshire County Council.

And now I've launched this website dedicated to the illustration of motorcycles. I've worked to commission for many years drawing many subjects but now here's my focus.
